A Rainy Washington

Thursday in Washington on PhotoPeach

Today was another full day. I didn't get a chance to take as many pictures as I would like because of the rainy conditions. We went to the Library of Congress. The old Bibles are pretty neat. The kids should be able to view a picture on the internet. Newseum was a really neat experience. We ate there also. We then walked in the rain to the Smithsonian museums. With a little extra time we went by the National Cathedral. That place was really neat. I wish we had time to get out and take pictures. Dinner at Pentagon City Mall with thousands of other students allowed everyone to expend there last energy. Everyone is looking forward to getting home.
Thanks to moms and dads for providing such a wonderful trip. Thanks to the moms and dads along on the trip.

Picture Slideshow from Wednesday

Another Busy Day

We had another busy day. Mr. Jones started us with devotions and breakfast. We loaded and traveled a short distance to Mount Vernon. After a little bit, we traveled to Union Station to eat lunch. Union Station has a food court similar to most malls. We quickly walked to the Supreme Court building and listened to some great information. We then did a pretty extensive walk through the Capitol. The weather seemed a little warmer today or my jacket kept me warmer. We went to the Vietnam Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. The kids were so well behaved we were ahead of schedule. We had time to visit the Kennedy Center and look at Washington DC from atop a building terrace. Dinner was at HardRock and then we went back to Lincoln Memorial for a night view. Sorry the pictures don’t stay in time order.

There are some pictures added from swimming last night.
Sorry, I couldn’t get the slideshow loaded tonight. I will try in the morning.

It is Cold in Washington

Today was a beautiful day but cold. We started out with a devotion with Mr. Jones. After loading up the bus we headed over to Arlington National Cemetery. There we had the honor of Laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown. While there, we also met Mr. Lussi’s grandson. From the cemetery, we traveled to the Iwo Jima Memorial. It was then time to eat lunch at the Reagan Building food court. After lunch, we visited National Archives with the Magna Charter,  the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. We then traveled to the WWII Memorial. Since we were ahead of schedule, we stopped by the White House. The students were amazed with the protesters. The group then went to the Holocaust Museum. We could have stayed there for several hours but were limited to only one. We finished our day by traveling to the FDR Memorial and walked to the Jefferson Memorial along the river.

We finished the day with pizza and swimming/socializing. The kids were really hungry and demolished most of the pizza in 4 minutes.

I took quite a few pictures today. Somehow the order gets mixed up through the transfer. Hope you enjoy the slide show.

Don’t forget the teddy bear

We made it to Washington. The trip was somewhat uneventful for which we can be thankful. Our first stop was in South Carolina. We continued to Charlotte. We ate and shopped at the Concord mills mall, which is similar to Discover Mills Mall but as the kids said “much nicer”. We then traveled to Virginia and visited a little playground area at the rest area. The meal at Fuddruckers was super. Cookies were included.
The Hilton is one of the nicest I’ve stayed in.
We are fortunate to have so much support from the parents. Thanks so much for helping to make this trip possible. As we loaded the buses this morning, I couldn’t help but think about the times I loaded my kids on the bus to go on different trips. They always wanted to take their own pillow. Oh yeah, they also wanted to carry their teddy bear or blankie. My oldest still has a teddy bear from 5th grade that goes everywhere with her. I have even made special trips to deliver the teddy. There is nothing wrong with finding security
in a teddy bear.
I hope to have some pictures tomorrow.
Here is the web site to view the web site Mr. Beavers started. The kids can post pictures directly form their cell phones.

Washington trip soon

CapitolOnly a few more days and we will have the opportunity to visit the capitol ourselves. I’m tuning up my skills of blogging in an attempt to keep all those interested with the most up to date information.

Washington DC

The class leaves for Washington in 2 weeks or a mere 10 school days. A lot will be happening while we are in Washington. I will attempt to keep parents and others concerned about their kids up to date with pictures and information at this blog site. I will be checking email daily if you have any concerns.
